Phone and Email Scams
Scam calls and emails have been happening for years, targeting citizens with illegal schemes.
Citizens have reported receiving calls and emails claiming to be from utility companies, courts or law enforcement agencies, threatening arrest unless a payment is made immediately. THIS IS A SCAM.
These calls can be very convincing and might even appear to be from a valid phone number on caller ID. But they are FAKE AND ILLEGAL.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from a court, law enforcement agency or other agency and asking for your personal information or a payment, HANG UP.
Some scammers have recorded messages that sound legitimate. All these fraudulent efforts on the part of the criminal callers can make these calls very deceptive and convincing.
In addition to sophisticated and convincing phone scams, thieves are also using emails to solicit personal information. Be cautious when opening emails from someone you are not familiar with.
