Secondhand Dealer
A pawnbroker/secondhand dealer’s license is required for any individual who wishes to engage in the business of loaning money on the security of pledges, deposits or conditional sales of personal property; or buying or selling secondhand personal property, metal junk or melted metals.
An application can be obtained online or in person, and then the completed form must be submitted to the Finance Department along with an application fee of $135. A copy of the individual’s valid Drivers License or other accepted photo ID must be submitted along with the application. Applicants will then be fingerprinted at the Camas Police Department.
After the Police Department completes a background, the Chief of Police will make a recommendation to the Finance Department regarding approval or denial of the application. If approved, the applicant shall be issued a license. Each license shall be for a two-year period to expire on December 31st of the second year from issuance.
Submitting an application for a pawnbroker/secondhand dealer license, or picking up the license itself can only be done in person at the Finance Department in City Hall. Payment can be made with cash, check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover Card.
