Beware of Possible Phone Scam

The Camas Police Department has received information from multiple residents that they have been getting phone calls from scammers stating that the residents have warrants for their arrest and will immediately be arrested if they don’t comply with instructions.

The caller usually states that the resident missed a court date and has a bench warrant.  The caller also mentions specific Camas Police employees and/or judicial members from the local community.

In addition, the caller has programmed their Caller ID to show the main phone number of the Camas Police Department; (360) 834-4151. Any phone number can be “spoofed” to appear on Caller ID, to include a government agency or police department.

The Camas Police are reminding residents that the police will not call you on the phone telling you that there is a warrant for your arrest and will never request money in any fashion.
Never give your credit/debit card number or bank routing number if you are unsure if the call is legitimate.

If you have any reservations regarding a call you receive, please reach out to Camas PD.

If you suspect you received a scam phone call, you can also contact the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov or 202-326-2222. The FTC has the ability to detect patterns of fraud from information collected.
