Second Story Gallery Welcomes Washougal Artist Travis London for Artist-in-Residence Program During the Month of May.

The Second Story Gallery, located in the Camas Public Library, is proud to announce its upcoming Artist-in-Residence Program featuring Washougal artist and educator Travis London. Known for his large-scale public murals depicting vivid nature scenes, London will engage the community through a month-long residency that includes a solo art exhibit, interactive workshops, and an artist talk. This residency is made possible by a grant from the Autzen Foundation.

London’s exhibition, titled “Contours”, will be on display at the Second Story Gallery, located on the upper level of the Camas Public Library. Contours explores the diverse landscapes and nonhuman inhabitants that make up the Pacific Northwest. The paintings chronicle the backcountry of some of the last wild places and aim to evoke a sense of interconnectedness, beauty, and a call to protect these public lands.

As part of the residency, Travis London will lead two free artist-run workshops and an artist talk:

  • Artist Workshop for Kids – Saturday, May 3 at 1:30 p.m.: In this session, kids will receive an introduction to the elements of art and use mixed media to create an inspiring new work on canvas. This event is for elementary school kids in grades 1 - 5th. Materials provided.
  • Artist Workshop for Teens – Monday, May 19 at 5 p.m.: In these sessions, teens will also receive an introduction to elements of art and use mixed media to create an inspiring new work on canvas. This event is for elementary school kids in grades 6-12th. Materials provided.
  • Artist Workshop for Adults – Saturday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m.: Join Travis in painting a local Camas or Washougal landscape.  In addition to leaving with a completed canvas, participants will get an introduction to elements of composition and color. Begin to unravel the mysteries of light and gain a solid command of the acrylic technique and brushwork.  Materials will be provided.
  • Artist Talk – Tuesday, May 27 at 6 p.m.: Travis will share insights into his creative process, the inspiration behind his latest collection, and the stories woven throughout his art. This is a great opportunity to hear directly from the artist, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the techniques and themes featured in the exhibit.

“This program is an exciting opportunity for our community to connect with an artist whose work not only captures the beauty of our region, but also encourages us to see and protect it in new ways,” said Library Director Connie Urquhart.
