2022 Exhibits

Stepping Out, July/August 2022

Stepping Out is a showcase of artwork by Hayes Freedom and Camas High School art students. This exhibition marked a return of the Second Story Gallery after not having our regular exhibition for more than two years. The title "Stepping Out" referenced our community coming out of 2020's lockdowns, and the process of adolescence as a time of emergence and learning to be fearless in speaking up. Making artwork was powerfully cathartic for students throughout this time and The Gallery was proud to celebrate their bravery and presence in our community.

Tiny Art Show, September 2022

The Camas Public Library's first tiny art show in 2021 was exhibited in the Library's display case and was very popular with the community. For this second tiny art show, the Library decided to increase the number of participants and exhibit the show in the recently rebooted Second Story Gallery. The Library offered patrons of all ages the opportunity to create an original piece of art on a 3 in. x 3 in. canvas. The Library provided paint, but participants could use any materials they had available. Everyone who finished their artwork was included in the show. The constraint of the small canvas made it a challenging process, but also fun and accessible for artists. The artwork exhibited was a testament to the talent and creativity in our community at all age levels and we thank all the artists for participating. Special thanks to Library Associate Leah Burch for her work coordinating the show.

Silesian Stories, October 2022

Silesian Stories dealt with the relationship between Camas and its sister cities in Poland: Krapkowice, Morawica, and Zabierzow. This relationship has existed for more than 20 years and is due in large part to the efforts of Lloyd and Ulrike Halverson. Both Lloyd and Ulrike have been active in civic life for many years in Camas and Lloyd is a former City Administrator. The exhibit contained original artwork by Ulrike along with art objects from Poland and accompanying informational text.
