Camas Public Library to Host Inaugural Children’s Author Event Celebrating Mary Pope Osborne’s Magic Treehouse

On May 20 beginning at 3:30 p.m., the Camas Public Library will hold their inaugural Children’s Author Event downstairs in the Children’s Library. This year’s event will coincide with the birthday of Mary Pope Osborne, the author of the Magic Treehouse series. The event will run until 5:30 p.m., providing two hours of themed activities and stations.

First published in 1992, the Magic Treehouse follows brother and sister Jack and Annie as they embark on adventures through time, space, and various locations in a magical treehouse. Inspired by Osborne’s own love of travel, the series has garnered numerous awards and accolades, including honors from organizations such as the Council of Teachers of English. Over the years, the series has expanded to include subseries, super editions and non-fiction companions.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate Mary Pope Osborne’s birthday with a celebration that honors her incredible contributions to children’s literature,” said Connie Urquhart, Library Director.

Elementary-aged children can participate in activities such as deciphering ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and digging for dinosaur fossils. By completing these activities, children will earn stamps in their Magic Treehouse Passport and be entered into a raffle for a chance to win the first five books in the series.

Camas Public Library’s “Magic Treehouse Celebration” is funded by the Friends & Foundation of the Camas Library. No registration is required to attend.
