Annual Tree-lighting Event, a Popular Community Event This Friday!
Photos with Santa, crafts, lighting the Christmas tree, hay rides, fireworks, Camas Schools entertainment, food & refreshments - it’s all back this year for the City of Camas’ popular event, Hometown Holidays.
Hometown Holidays will be held on Friday, December 2 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. Activities include welcoming entertainment at 6:00PM in front of Liberty Theatre, by Prune Hill Penguins Choir, and the lighting of the Christmas tree by Mayor Scott Higgins at 6:30PM. Photos with Santa start early this year, at 6:00PM. From 6:45PM to 9:00PM, Downtown Camas will be bustling with over 15 school and community choirs, bands and dancers, photos with Santa, tractor hay rides, crafts for the kids, street food vendors, and downtown restaurants and shops open for business.
The event continues to be free, thanks to the financial support of Columbia Credit Union, Camas Meadows Golf Club, Your Party & Event Center, Windermere Real Estate, Unitus Community Credit Union, Downtown Camas Associaton, and in-kind donors and volunteers. All of the event activities are free. Of course, you’ll pay to eat at the various restaurants and food vendors that night and to shop for your holiday gifts in Camas’ well-known historic downtown. The tree-lighting happens at 6:30pm sharp; you don’t want to be late.
“Each year just gets better and better.” says Krista Bashaw, Special Events Coodinator for the City of Camas, who has coordinated the event for over 11 years. “This is one of Mayor Higgins’ favorite events and he made sure to add a special surprise to the opening of the festivities. Make sure to be at the lighting-of-the-tree at 6:30PM to be part of that ooh-aah moment.”
“An important change to note,” adds Bashaw, “is that Santa will be ready for photos beginning at 6:00PM this year and will end early at 8:30PM.” Santa’s Photos will be located in the large canopy tent, on Birch Street near N.E. 4th Avenue.
