September 17th-October 29th Lacamas Lake Drawdown for Dam Repairs
Historically, Georgia-Pacific begins drawing down the lake’s water levels after Labor Day to facilitate the annual inspections of the upper and lower dams, and provide time to conduct any necessary maintenance. During the drawdown, water levels reduce by approximately 6-feet to the 5-foot level as measured at the Dams.
Camas residents will notice that Lacamas Lake is looking a little bit different. For those who are new to the area, the sight of bare ground around the lake may be a bit shocking. But fear not, the drawdown only lasts for a few weeks. Each year local volunteers plan a cleanup event to coincide with it. As part of this effort led by Underwriters Laboratories, each and every year, up to 200 people descend on Heritage Park, and the surrounding areas in an effort to remove piles of garbage from the lake. The effort is immense, and several tons of debris are typically collected.
Date: Saturday, September 29th 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Meet at the Heritage Park parking lot off of Lake Road.
